Initiative 3.i – Develop the 16th Street Mall into a world-class attraction:
CH2M has been hired to determine options for the future of the 16th Street Mall so that it is a safe, appealing and economically vital public space. Project partners include the City and County of Denver, RTD, Denver Urban Renewal Authority (DURA), Downtown Denver Partnership, Downtown Denver Business Improvement District, and Federal Transit Administration. The 2017 General Obligation (GO) Bond provides $13 million to assist with redevelopment of the Mall.
Initiative 3.iii – (Completed in 2016) – Re-authorize Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD):
In November 2016, metro Denver voters overwhelming supported re-authorization of the SCFD through 2030. The SCFD supports nearly 300 arts and cultural organizations in the Denver metro area.
Initiative 3.vi – Create and promote branded tours and trails (e.g. culture, beer, history/heritage):
The 5280 Loop is a 5.280-mile proposed urban trail for pedestrians and bikes connecting downtown neighborhoods, attractions and open spaces.
Initiative 3.vii – (Completed in 2016) – Enhance Denver Union Station Tourist Information Center:
Opened in the fall of 2016, the Union Station information center is welcoming and assisting approximately 150-200 visitors each day.
Initiative 3.xii – (Completed in 2017) – Re-establish and market Ski Train:
The Ski Train, connecting Denver Union Station to Winter Park Resort, resumed operations during winter 2016-17 and will continue with expanded service during winter 2017-2018.
