Initiative 1.i – Ensure the Colorado Convention Center (CCC) expansion moves forward in timely manner and in alignment with recommendations outlined in SAG study and CCC Master Plan:
Denver hotels overwhelmingly supported creation of the Denver Tourism Improvement District (TID) in November 2017. The TID will raise revenue for tourism infrastructure and marketing. A portion of the funds will be used to expand the convention center, including 80,000 square feet of meeting space, a 50,000-square-foot outdoor terrace, and improved networking spaces. Also related to expansion progress, Denver’s Department of Public Works has hired a project manager and project management firm, the project budget and scope have been solidified, and Fentress Architects has been hired to design the project.
Initiative 1.ii – Develop the National Western Center (NWC) as a multipurpose facility that drives overnight demand and addresses customer needs:
Several contractors have been hired to progress the redevelopment of the NWC including CH2M as the program manager and MIG to conduct a campus placemaking study. Land acquisition is currently underway and branding is being developed. The project officially broke ground in November 2017.
